The school opens for our Breakfast club families at 7:45am. The main school opens at 8:40am with children required to be in school by 8:50am when the register is taken. Parents bring children into school through the side door and take children to their cloakroom and then drop them into the classroom. The first half an hour of the day is to relax the children into their day by allowing them to choose an activity and chat with their friends. At 9:10am the children collect together to find out about the day ahead.
For the Reception children this will combine “free flow” activities with times where the teacher will work with small groups of children on a specific activity. At all times the outside learning environment is available and most children take full advantage of this because of the resources available to them outdoors. The combination of free flow versus directed activities changes throughout the year as the children become more ready for a slightly more formal approach to learning ready for Keystage One learning in their second year at school.
Three times a week the whole school meet for assembly. These are based around our value for the half term. One Wednesday each term (at 9:10am) the children from each class will take this assembly for families to enjoy seeing what they have been learning about in the classroom. The dates for these are published at the start of each term. Our Friday assembly is when we celebrate all that has gone well during the week. Our Tuesday and Thursday assembly happens within the classroom for each class.
The Reception children have lunch at 11:45am and this is followed by some time on the playground to socialise with their peers and the older children. The Year 1 children have lunch at 12:15pm and the Year 2 children at 12:40pm. This allows each year group to have a calm and purposeful meal time supported by the adults in the hall. The lunch break for all children is an hour to include eating their meal and having some time outside.
The afternoon session finishes at 3:10pm where families pick up their children from the classroom doors. There are various after school activities provided by outside clubs (for which there is a charge). Currently these are drama, multi- sports, rugby, maths and football. Our after school club meets each afternoon from 3:10pm to 6pm and offers children various activities both inside and outside.
